Hi, and welcome to another Runner’s Profile, by Werrington Joggers. Today we are profiling a new club member.
So, whats your name, and how long have you been a member of Werrington Joggers ?
I'm Ronnie, and I've been a member of WJ for less than a year.
When did you start running, and what was your motivation to start ?
I completed a Run for Fun (couch to 10k) programme with one of the members of WJ, who inspired me to take up running more regularly. I have only been running for two years and I now run regularly following a coaching plan designed by the coach who inspired me to start. My friends say I talk too much about running!
How many pairs of running shoes do you own, and which is your favourite ?
I have three pairs of running shoes and my favourite is a HOKA. I did a gait analysis for my two favourite pairs.
What was your favourite ever run, or race ?
I love Rutland Park run as the setting is so beautiful; and the GER which I recently completed for the first time. A half marathon was a major achievement for me as an older, novice runner and the encouragement of the crowd was amazing. I would like to do it again next year.
What kind of distance is your ‘happy place’ when going for a run, and what speed to you tend to run it at ?
I like the 10k and for training, around 6-7k. For me, the achievement is in the run! I am a slow runner (around 12mile pace) but I have improved with the coaching plan I am following. I try not to be too obsessed with time and to enjoy every run as much as I can. I have a set of lights for the dark and a good rain jacket!
For new runners, what would be your advice on what to avoid ?
Avoid running every day, especially if you are older.
