The Oscar award was donated to the club by Keith Nelson when he was publisher of To-days Runner Magazine (now known as Running Fitness magazine). For those who don't know the origins of Werrington Joggers, that magazine was launched by EMAP at the same time as the club was formed and was targeted at clubs like WJ, and used WJ as "the model club"!
Indeed, many of the early editions featured photographs of WJ members, shoe reports were written by them and the odd ankle, thigh or stretch was performed by a Werrington Jogger!
In giving us the shield Keith wanted it to recognise pure athletic excellence whether on a local, national or international stage and it continues to be the only club award presented purely on the basis of athletic excellence.
